I haven’t spent the past 35 years in the trenches advocating for children, campaigning for universal health care, helping parents balance work and family, and fighting for women’s rights at home and around the world to see another Republican in the White House squander the promise of our country and the hopes of our people…Barack Obama began his career fighting for workers displaced by the global economy. He built his campaign on a fundamental belief that change in this country must start from the ground up, not the top down. He knows government must be about “We the people” not “We the favored few

USA Drug Laws Must Change

“A 200 dollar transaction can cost society $100,000 for a three-year sentence.”

Our drug incarceration rate in the United States is the highest in the world. We love to lock people up — yet we don’t focus on the causes of high drug use nor do we focus on rehabilitation. Our priorities are skewed.

Also, just think of all the money our government could make if we were able to tax drugs.

“She [Eleanor Roosevelt] said, ‘You know, if you’re going to be involved in politics you have to grow skin as thick as a rhinoceros.’ So occasionally, I’ll be sitting somewhere and I’ll be listening to someone perhaps not saying the kindest things about me, and I’ll look down at my hand and I’ll sort of pinch my skin to make sure it still has the requisite thickness I know Eleanor Roosevelt expects me to have.” -Hillary Clinton

WE NEED SOMEONE TO SAY WHAT HILLARY SAID IN 2007. READ AND RE-BLOG IF YOU SUPPORT WOMEN’S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:
“And so what we’ve done is to force the Republicans and their conservative allies to reveal their true agenda. They don’t just want to wage a war on choice, they want to wage a war on contraception. They are against family planning. In the 21st Century, they want to prevent women from having access to the tools they should have to determine their own reproductive futures.
And I think it’s important to continue pointing that out. We cannot let them hide behind their positions without making it clear what their real agenda is. Because the fact is, today, the United States has one of the highest unintended pregnancy rates in the industrialized world. Half of all pregnancies are unintended and nearly half of those end in abortions.
Anyone truly committed to reducing the need for abortions should be committed to doing whatever it takes to reducing unintended pregnancies—regardless of politics and regardless of ideology.
And we know who’s paying the price for these policies–women around the world suffering because they no longer have access to reproductive care; women right here at home who want to plan their families and who want to prevent unintended pregnancies but no longer have access to contraception.
This is not just an affront to women’s rights—it is an affront to human rights, to our most fundamental values as a nation.” -Hillary Clinton, 2007
